So, you’ve chosen the perfect portable building—whether it’s a Utility Shed, Garden Shed, Garage, Lofted Garage, Cabin, or Barn—and now it’s time to get your property ready for delivery. At Willow Prairie Portable Buildings, we want your installation day to go as smoothly as possible, and a little preparation goes a long way.

Whether you’re in northern Indiana, lower Michigan, or northwestern Ohio, we’ve got you covered with FREE delivery on most factory orders and free delivery within 50 miles of our dealership. With thousands of portable buildings delivered each year, we know what it takes to get your building placed safely, quickly, and hassle-free.

Here’s how to get your property ready for delivery day:

✅ 1. Pick the Perfect Spot

Start by choosing a level area that’s large enough for the size of your building, plus extra space for maneuvering during delivery. A few tips:

  • Avoid low-lying spots that collect water.

  • Keep at least 3 feet of clearance around the building for ventilation and maintenance.

  • If you’re unsure, we’re happy to advise you before delivery.

✅ 2. Prepare a Level Foundation

While our buildings can sit directly on the ground (everything from the floor down is constructed of pressure treated lumber), some people prefer concrete blocks or gravel pads, the surface needs to be as level as possible. An uneven site can cause long-term settling or alignment issues.

Good foundation options include:

  • Gravel pad – Excellent drainage and support.

  • Concrete pad – Clean and permanent.

  • Concrete blocks – Budget-friendly and reliable for most sheds.

Need help? We can connect you with trusted local contractors for site prep.

✅ 3. Clear the Path

Make sure the delivery crew has easy access to the site:

  • Remove low-hanging branches and obstacles.

  • Open gates or fences wide enough to accommodate your building.

  • If necessary, notify us of tight corners or uneven driveways—we use a shed mule (specialized moving equipment) in delivery to maneuver in tight spaces.

✅ 4. Check for Permits

Every town and county has different rules. Be sure to:

  • Check local zoning or HOA guidelines before delivery.

  • Obtain any permits required for outbuildings or portable structures.

PLEASE NOTE: Because we serve such a wide delivery area across multiple counties and states, we are not familiar with the specific permit requirements of every local town or municipality. While we are happy to deliver your building regardless, it is the customer’s responsibility to check with their local authorities regarding zoning regulations, building codes, and permit requirements before delivery. Taking the time to verify this in advance can help avoid any delays or compliance issues after your building arrives.
