Who Rent-to-Own Is Best For (and Who It's Not)
You need a storage shed. You’ve found the right building. But there’s still one big question:
What’s the best way to pay for it?
For many customers, a Rent-to-Own shed program can provide an easy and flexible way to get the storage space they need without paying the full purchase price upfront. But Rent-to-Own isn’t automatically the best choice for everyone.
At Willow Prairie Portable Buildings, we believe the best option is the one that makes sense for your needs and your budget.
So, who is Rent-to-Own best for—and who might be better off purchasing outright?
Rent-to-Own May Be Great for Someone Who Needs a Shed NOW
Sometimes waiting simply isn’t practical.
Maybe your garage is overflowing with lawn equipment, tools, bicycles, totes, and seasonal decorations. Perhaps your expensive mower is sitting outside exposed to the weather. Or maybe you need a workshop, garden shed, or portable cabin sooner rather than later.
Rent-to-Own allows you to get the building you need now and spread the cost over manageable monthly payments.
Instead of spending another year dealing with the storage problem while saving the entire purchase price, you can start enjoying your new building much sooner.
It Can Be Ideal If You Don’t Want a Credit Check
One of the biggest advantages of Rent-to-Own portable buildings is simple:
No credit check.
Traditional financing usually involves a loan application, credit history, approval process, a good credit score, and a corresponding interest rate. Rent-to-Own works differently.
That makes RTO particularly attractive for someone with limited credit history, someone rebuilding their credit, or even someone with excellent credit who simply doesn’t want another traditional loan or credit inquiry.
Your credit score doesn’t have to determine whether you can finally get the backyard storage space you need.
It May Work Well If You Don’t Have Thousands Available Upfront
A quality portable building is an investment, and not everyone wants to pull several thousand dollars from savings at one time.
Rent-to-Own provides an alternative.
Instead of paying the entire cost upfront, you make regular monthly rental payments under the terms of your agreement.
Better yet, qualifying in-stock buildings may even be eligible for $0 down with certain Rent-to-Own options.
That can make getting a quality storage shed much more accessible and a lot sooner than you think.
It Can Be a Smart Option If You Expect to Pay It Off Early
Here's where understanding your options becomes especially important.
Choosing a longer Rent-to-Own term doesn't necessarily mean you have to keep the agreement for that entire period.
You can pay off your building early.
Suppose you need the building today but expect a tax refund, bonus, seasonal income, or other funds later. Rent-to-Own may allow you to get the building now and then exercise an early purchase option when the money becomes available.
We also offer a 90 Days Same as Cash option for customers who meet the program requirements.
That flexibility can make RTO particularly useful when the issue isn't whether you can afford the building, but simply when your money will be available.
It May Be Right for Someone Who Values Predictable Payments
Some people simply prefer budgeting with regular monthly payments rather than making one large purchase.
With 36, 48, and 60-month Rent-to-Own options, you can choose from available plans to find a monthly payment that better fits your budget.
For many families, knowing what to expect each month makes planning much easier.
So, Who Is Rent-to-Own NOT Best For?
Rent-to-Own offers tremendous convenience, but that convenience isn't free.
If you already have the money available and can comfortably purchase your shed outright, buying it outright will cost less overall than carrying a Rent-to-Own agreement to full term.
That's important.
We don't want to tell every customer that Rent-to-Own is automatically their best option simply because it's available.
If you can pay cash without creating financial strain, purchasing outright may make more sense. You do what's best for you!
It May Not Be Best If the Monthly Payment Stretches Your Budget Too Far
A storage building can be incredibly useful, but your monthly payment still needs to fit comfortably within your household budget.
Before choosing Rent-to-Own, look at the payment honestly.
Can you comfortably handle it along with your mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, insurance, transportation, and other monthly obligations?
If the answer is no, consider a smaller or more affordable storage shed instead.
Sometimes the smartest choice isn't finding a way to afford a bigger building—it's choosing a building that better fits your budget.
It May Not Be Best If You Haven’t Compared the Total Cost
Don't choose a Rent-to-Own program based solely on the monthly payment.
Look at the bigger picture.
Ask about the cash price, monthly payment, length of the agreement, early purchase options, and total cost if you keep the agreement for the entire term.
A lower monthly payment over a longer period may be attractive, but it can also result in a higher total cost.
Understanding those numbers helps you make an informed decision rather than simply choosing the lowest monthly payment.
The Best Option Is the One That Fits YOU
There isn't one payment method that's perfect for everybody.
For some customers, paying cash makes the most sense.
For others, Rent-to-Own with no credit check provides exactly the flexibility they need to get a storage building today while spreading the expense over time.
And some customers choose Rent-to-Own initially and then pay their building off early.
That's why we offer options.
At Willow Prairie Portable Buildings, we'd rather help you understand those choices than pressure you into one of them!
